On the heels of my first round of chemo, I have some thoughts on bravery. It doesn’t always mean what we think it does, and that’s actually ok.

In her Divergent book series, Veronica Roth writes these words,
“There are so many ways to be brave in this world. Sometimes bravery involves laying down your life for something bigger than yourself, or for someone else. Sometimes it involves giving up everything you have ever known, or everyone you have ever loved, for the sake of something greater. But sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes it is nothing more than gritting your teeth through pain, and the work of every day, the slow walk toward a better life.”

For many–myself included–September is the most wonderful time of the year, no matter what Christmas-lovers may tell you. In a few hours, people in my little corner of the world will be bidding 2017 adieu and ringing in the new year with hope and optimism. I will always remember 2017 as the year I shrank my life.
